"Tracial Stability for C*-algebras (and Groups)"
The
type
of
stability
I
will
discuss
is
an
analogue
of
weak
semiprojectivity
of
C*-algebras.
An
example
is
if
$A=A^{\ast}$
and
$\left\Vert
A^{2}-A\right\Vert
$
is
sufficiently
small,
then
there
is
a
projection
$P$
in
the
C*-algebra
generated
by
$A$
such
that
$\left\Vert
P-A\right\Vert
$
is
small.
We
study
the
analogue
when
each
C*-algebra
has
a
trace
$\tau$
and
$\left\Vert
X\right\Vert
$
is
replaced
by
$\left\Vert
X\right\Vert
=\tau\left( X^{\ast}X\right)
^{1/2}$.
If
time
permits,
we
will
discuss
tracially
stable
relations
on
groups.
This
is joint
work
with
Tanya
Shulman.
