"(p,q) Matricial Range and Quantum Information Science"

Let Mmn be the set of mn matrices and write Mn for Mnn. Let Vr={X\in Mnr:X*X=Ir}, where Ir denotes the rr identity matrix. Suppose   A1,...,Am\in Mn and p,q\ge 1.  The (p,q) matricial range of  A1,...,Am is given by

$$\Lambdap,q (A1,...,Am)= {(B1,...,Bm)\in MqmX*AjX = Ip \otimes Bj with X \in Vpq for j = 1,...,m}.$$

The study of \Lambdap,q is motivated by problems in quantum error correction. It can also be viewed as extension on some classical subjects, e.g. joint numerical ranges and compression of matrices.  We will discuss some results and problems on \Lambdap,q.

This is joint work with Pan-Shun Lau,  Chi-Kwong Li, and Nung-Sing Sze.
