“Jets”

We will begin by defining jets in both differential and algebraic contexts before discussing the jet groups, velocities, covelocities and jet prolongations of fibred manifolds. In particular, jets will allow us to define the notion of a differential operator on sections of vector bundles in a coordinate-independent way. Finally, we will state and discuss several consequences of the (linear) Peetre theorem which provides sufficient conditions for an operator on sections of vector bundles to be a differential operator.
