“Inoue Surfaces”
In a series of a three articles, Kodaira classified complex surfaces and he described almost all of them except what he referred to as class VII surfaces. His student, Inoue, came up with new, non-trivial, examples of such surfaces which were later on named after him. In this talk, we will briefly explain the importance of these surfaces, then we go through the actual construction of the surface and we will see some of their main properties that will help us classify vector bundles over them.

The University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples. Our main campus is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. Our active work toward reconciliation takes place across our campuses through research, learning, teaching, and community building, and is centralized within our Office of Indigenous Relations.
