"The geometry of Yang-Mills fields, Part 05"

Throughout the spring 2013 term, we will (as a group) be reading through and lecturing on "The Geometry of Yang-Mills Fields" by Sir Michael Atiyah. All are welcome to attend.

Jordan Hamilton, Pure Mathematics, University of Waterloo

"Generalized geometry and deformation theory"

Generalized complex geometry is a new branch of geometry first developed in 2002 by Nigel Hitchin. In this talk we will look at a brief introduction to generalized geometry and the deformation theory of these structures as developed by Marco Gualtieri in this PhD thesis. Then, we will focus our attention to Kodaira surfaces and examine some deformations of these structures and their interaction. Time permitting we will also examine other structures and constructions, such as holomorphic Poisson structures and B-field transforms, and see how they fit into our deformation space.
