"The geometry of Yang-Mills fields, Part 04"

Throughout the Spring 2013 term, we will (as a group) be reading through and lecturing on "The Geometry of Yang-Mills Fields" by Sir Michael Atiyah. All are welcome to attend.

Alejandra Vicente-Colmenares, Pure Mathematics, University of Waterloo

"Spectral curves over $\mathbb P^1$"

In this talk we will introduce the notion of spectral curves for co-Higgs bundles over $\mathbb P^1$. Given a co-Higgs semistable pair $(E, \phi)$, one can construct a spectral curve $S$, which naturally lives in the total space of the tangent bundle of $\mathbb P^1$, as the solutions of a characteristic polynomial equation. Furthermore, as first shown by Hitchin, one may recover the pair $(E, \phi)$ from $S$ and the line eigenbundle over $S$. We will try to make this more precise, and time permitting, we will exhibit this correspondence.
