“Extension of Scalars”

We continue our steady march towards Corollary 3.13 in Kenneth Brown’s Cohomology of Groups. In this talk we will be discussing extension of scalars which is covered in Section III.3. Given an R- module and a homomorphism from R to S, extension of scalars allows us to define an S-module. Time pemitting, we will apply this to group rings in particular in order to define induced modules, as discussed in Section III.5. Proposition 5.6 in particular is the next step in a chain of results leading to Corollary 3.13.
