“Introduction to Tensor Products”

Alex Berenbeim will finish his talk from last week and then we introduce the basics of tensor products. A tensor product is a specific kind of R-biadditive function that takes two R-modules to an abelian group. We start off with definitions of R-biadditive functions and tensor products and then prove the existence of tensor products. We then give some examples and prove some properties of tensor products, including distributivity laws and a relationship between tensor products and functors.
