Given a subset R of a complex manifold, one can ask how much of the complex structure is inherited (locally) by R? This can be measured in many different ways. We will consider two such measures - the inner and outer complex dimensions of R at a point - and discuss how they relate to the classical CR geometry. We will also show that for large classes of sets these dimensions behave in a controlled way (Grothendieck’s ”tameness”), which allows one to develop CR geometry in the non-smooth setting.
Refreshments will be served in MC 5046 at 3:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend.

The University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples. Our main campus is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. Our active work toward reconciliation takes place across our campuses through research, learning, teaching, and community building, and is centralized within our Office of Indigenous Relations.
