“Minimalistic anabelian geometry and the mod-ell variant of Bogomolov’s program.”

In the early 90’s, Bogomolov proposed a program whose ultimate goal is to reconstruct function fields of higher-dimensional algebraic varieties from certain ”almost-abelian” quotients of their abso- lute Galois groups. Although this program remains unresolved in full generality, it has been completed in a few special but important cases by Bogomolov-Tschinkel, Pop and Silberstein. After an introduc- tion to Bogomolov’s program, I will discuss its mod-ell generalization/strengthening, as well as the fundamental difficulties that arise in the mod-ell context. Finally, I will describe recent work which overcomes these difficulties by utilizing results from geometric model theory.
