Abstract
Let (X,d) be a metric space which is separable and complete, and let Prob(X) denote the set of all probability measures on the Borel sigma-algebra of (X,d). One has a natural metric lambda* on Prob(X), and a beautiful theorem of Prokhorov which describes the compact subsets of the metric space (Prob(X), lambda*). In the following few weeks (Tuesdays 2-3:30 pm, starting om May 17), Daniel Pepper and Emilio Verdugo Paredes will give a series of talks around the metric lambda* and the theorem of Prokhorov.

The University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples. Our main campus is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. Our active work toward reconciliation takes place across our campuses through research, learning, teaching, and community building, and is centralized within our Office of Indigenous Relations.
