“Projections in von Neumann Algebras”

Having developed essential machinery such as the double commutant theorem, Kaplansky’s density theorem, and the Borel functional calculus, we are prepared to move toward a discussion on types of von Neumann algebras. We explore the concept of Murray-von Neumann equivalence, introduce the notion of a finite/infinite projection, and outline some key facts.
