Michael Szestopalow, Combinatorics & Optimization, University of Waterloo

"Brouwer and Sperner’s Bogus Journey"

Abstract: In the award-winning “Brouwer and Sperner’s Excellent Adventure”, Michael and Michael discussed the connection between Brouwer’s Fixed Point Theorem and Sperner’s Lemma. In this long-awaited sequel, Michael will discuss some applications of Sperner’s Lemma; in particular, Michael will consider cake-cutting and the fundamental theorem of algebra.

Computability Learning Seminar

Mohammad Mahmoud, Department of Pure Mathematics, University of Waterloo

“Number of K-creative sets”

Last time we have seen an upper bound on the number of K-trivial sets via some constant b. This week we compute a lower bound which as we will see is also a ”tight” bound (close to the exact number).
