Associate Professor Matt Kennedy has been awarded the Israel Halperin Prize for 2020. The prize is awarded every five years for outstanding work in operator algebras or operator theory to members of the Canadian mathematical community who are within ten years of receipt of their doctorate.
The Israel Halperin Prize was established in 1979 in honour of Israel Halperin, the founder of a group of researchers in operator algebras and operator theory at the University of Toronto, and his influence led to a very strong group in the field across Canada.
Congratulations, Matt!

The University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples. Our main campus is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. Our active work toward reconciliation takes place across our campuses through research, learning, teaching, and community building, and is co-ordinated within our Office of Indigenous Relations.
