"Counting curves on Abelian Varieties and Modular Forms"
In the last 25 years, a fascinating and mysterious connection between enumerative algebraic geometry and number theory has emerged: solutions to certain counting problems in algebraic geometry are given by the Fourier coefficients of modular forms. We will illustrate this phenomenon with both elementary and more sophisticated examples related to Abelian varieties. This is a colloquium level talk and we will not assume any prior knowledge of Abelian varieties or modular forms.
