Internship organization and designation: Labour Market Analyst, Workforce Planning Board of Grand Erie

Roles and responsibilities: Using a data driven approach to research and analysis, Wynona helps fulfil part of her organizations mandate to identify workforce challenges and opportunities within their community. She does this through consulting various statistical data sources from Statistics Canadas labor force data to regional surveys like EmployerOne - to analyze trends and report on the findings. As part of her role, she is currently developing a survey designed to offer unique insight into the kinds of challenges that employees and job seekers within Grand Erie face. Wynona has also had the opportunity to develop communication materials and to present findings to community partners!

Whats next: For Wynona, this role is the perfect learning opportunity, and she plans on continuing to develop her skills and expertise within the organization. Wynona prioritizes being an active community member and has recently begun volunteering at the local YMCA in her spare time. On the weekends, shes out exploring the incredible natural beauty within the region be it by going on hikes or fruit picking at local farms.

How MEDI helped: The MEDI program was instrumental - both in helping me secure this position and in giving me the tools and the knowledge I needed to succeed. While courses like Analytical Tools for Economic Development allowed me to develop the foundational research and analysis skills I use on a daily basis for my job, other courses gave me the training I needed to ask meaningful questions to better contextualize my findings. I am excited to continue building my network and gain a more wholistic understanding of the workforce planning and economic development world through my new role.
