MTHEL 99 - First-Year Mathematics Readiness
Math skills are important for Science studies, so this course is important preparation that you need to do in order to be ready for university studies. Use this opportunity to practice, identify, and close, any gaps in knowledge that you might have.
What is it?
MTHEL 99 is an online, skills-based course designed to help you refresh your knowledge of high school mathematics. You'll complete the course on LEARN (login required), UWaterloo's course platform.
What content will it cover?
It will give you extra practice with inequalities and absolute values, radicals and rational expressions, trigonometry, exponential and logarithmic functions, polynomials, and introductory calculus. Even if you already feel completely comfortable with these areas, we encourage you to work through the materials and assessments in MTHEL 99 to give your mind a refresh before you start your university studies in mathematics.
How long will it take me?
MTHEL 99 is designed to take between 3 hours and 5 hours per week.
When will I take this course?
The course will run from July 30 to September 3. The course will be delivered asynchronous and you can work away at your own pace.
Will I be graded?
It will be graded and appear on your academic record/transcript as CR (credit) or NCR (no credit). We fully expect that every student who works through the material will obtain the credit.
Is this mandatory?
All 1A students will be enrolled in MTHEL 99. If you are a transfer student from another post-secondary institution then you will not be enrolled in this course. MTHEL 99 is not a required course, and so you may drop it using Quest if this is your preference. However, we strongly recommend that you give this course your best effort as it will help you feel as ready as possible for the mathematics material that you will see in your first term of study in the faculty.
What is the cost of this course?
There is no cost associated with taking MTHEL 99.
