John Clifton "Clif" Young was a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science at the University of Waterloo. A Stratford, Ontario native, he spent his career mentoring students and teaching within the Faculty of Mathematics before passing away peacefully on September 19, 2025.

Throughout his long tenure at the university, he was deeply involved in the foundations of the department, alongside early colleagues like David Sprott. Outside of his academic contributions, Professor Young was an avid traveler and bird watcher, and was survived by his wife Elaine, three daughters, and extended family.
