Final exam season can be stressful, but knowing what to expect ahead of time can make you feel more prepared and confident.
Whether you're writing an exam in PAC or another location on campus, here's a quick guide to help you feel prepared, avoid surprises, and focus on doing your best.
Before you arrive
Before exam day, make sure you know your exam location and arrive 15 minutes early, so you have enough time to get settled before the exam begins. Remember to bring your WatCard or another form of photo identification to write your exam.
It's important to double-check with your instructor ahead of time to confirm which materials are approved for your exam. This can include calculators, formula sheets, pencils, or other course-specific items.
What you can bring to your desk
During the exam, only approved materials are allowed on your desk. Bags, backpacks, purses, and cases should be closed and stored underneath your desk (or in a designated area) while you write.
Electronic devices such as phones, smartwatches, earbuds, and smart glasses must be turned off and kept out of reach during the exam. Hats, hoodies, and caps may also need to be removed unless they are worn for religious purposes.
Food and drinks during exams
Food is not permitted in the exam room, but you may bring water in a clear, label-free bottle.
If you need a quick nutrition break during your exam, a proctor may supervise you outside the exam room. If you need additional accommodations or more frequent breaks, register with AccessAbility Services at least three weeks ahead of time to make arrangements before exam season begins.
Academic integrity matters
Final exams are designed to provide a fair experience for all students. Proctors and instructors will monitor the room closely and may remove unauthorized materials or ask students to change seats if necessary.
The best way to avoid unnecessary stress is to make sure you understand the exam rules before arriving and keep only approved materials with you during the exam.
Tips for a smooth exam experience
A few small steps can make exam day less stressful:
- Review the full exam rules in advance.
- Arrive early so you have time to settle in.
- Bring the correct writing utensils and approved materials.
- Ask questions before the exam begins if you are unsure about any instructions.
- Write clearly and neatly, especially for exams that may be scanned digitally.
- Double-check that your student information is completed correctly before handing in your exam.
Good luck!
Exams can be challenging, but being prepared can help reduce stress and set you up for success. Remember to take care of yourself, arrive prepared, and reach out for support if you need it.
Good luck on your finals!
