June is Bike Month in Waterloo Region, which means it is time to pump up the tires, strap on your helmet, and enjoy a beautiful ride to campus! Thanks to everyone who participated in this year's activities. Here is a snapshot about what went down!
Staff from Waterloo and TravelWise thought it would be good to kick off the month with a few thank-you notes. Over 750 bikes around campus received a little thanks and hopefully a little humour. Next year we will need to print even more!
After all the trips were counted, the University of Waterloo topped the community #BikeWR leaderboard by a wide margin.
Thanks to the TravelWise team for organizing the community-wide campaign.
A big congratulations to Hendrik Walther, who conqueredWaterloo’s Bike Challenge leaderboard for the second year in a row. It was a very tight race at the head of the pack! Winners for this year’s prize draws include:
- Claire Diffey won the $250 gift card to King Street Cycles;
- Brendan Lowther and Allison Boyd each won a swag bag, including a bike repair kit, umbrella, and handlebar mirror; and
- Cory Woods and Krista Parsons each won a $100 gift card to King Street Cycles
Most importantly, thanks to all of the staff, students, and faculty that tracked their trips throughout June and joined one of Waterloo’s Bike Breakfasts. Cycling to campus is a healthy, affordable, and eco-friendly way to get to campus, and your stats show it.
Over 100 employees and students joined Waterloo's Bike Breakfasts on June 9th and June 14th. There was coffee and food available for cyclists, and King Street Cycles provided on-site tune-ups for bikes.
Both events had great weather and it was exciting to see people meet and talk cycling!
