Alternative Fuels Team
The UW Alternative Fuels Team (UWAFT) began in 1996 in a humble garage in the physics building, when a group of engineering students linked their passion for designing, building, and designing cars with a strong environmental awareness. The group is now focused on design of EcoCAR 3, a vehicle that integrates environmental considerations and performance.
Alt. Protein Project
We are a group of students from the University of Waterloo who are a part of the Waterloo chapter of Good Food Institute’s Alt. Protein Project. We aim to educate our fellow peers about alternative proteins. However, in addition to education, our goal is to help other students find career paths in the alternative protein sector.
Animal Rights Society
We discuss animal rights related topics, advocate for animal rights on campus and in the Waterloo community and meet like-minded people. We run events such as vegan bake sales, fur-free pledges, vegan cooking classes, farm sanctuary trips, coffee giveaways, farmers market trips, weekly meetings, halloween candy giveaways, activism panels, vegan cheese giveaways, cruelty free booths, and any related events.
Bike Centre
Run by WUSA and located in SLC 0101, the Bike Centre offers a variety of services and volunteers to help you fix and maintain your bike. Their bike rental program also offers access to affordable bikes for term-long usage. Visit the Bike Centre website to see their services and hours.
Blueprint
Blueprint is a group of students that seek to leverage technology for social good. They partner with non-profits to provide technology services free of charge, including organizations engaging with sustainability issues. Reach out if you're interested in applying your technology and coding skills to real-world problems.
Campus Compost
Campus Compost is a student-run service launched in summer 2014 to recycle organic matter for use in local gardens. Compost bins throughout the Environment and Arts buildings collect organic matter, which gets sent to a tumbler and is reused as fertilizer! Canadian Association for Global Health
We represent a student-led initiative designed to foster research and networking in global health among University of Waterloo students across all disciplines. Our goal is to engage with students interested in global health research or who may be considering a career in the field of global health, to open opportunities for professional development.
Electrium Mobility
Comprised of passionate individuals, we are committed to shaping the future of transportation through the creation of electric vehicles. With a strong focus on sustainability and innovation, our mission is to increase awareness and promote the adoption of greener transportation options.
Enactus Waterloo
Enactus Waterloo is a local chapter of Enactus Canada, and is focused on improving the standard of living by ensuring people, planet, and profit are considered. One project involves construction of a plastics recycling facility in Tanzania to create employment opportunities and reduce waste.
Energy Network
UWEN is a collective seeking to connect students with opportunities to accelerate sustainable innovation and just transitions in the energy sector. We enjoy learning about clean energy through engaging discussions with faculty members and industry partners; visiting active projects; and participating in energy challenges.
Engineers Without Borders
Founded by two Waterloo graduates, EWB has grown exponentially and counts people from all fields and walks of life. EWB's focus is on helping people and communities in the developing world gain access to the technologies they need to improve their lives.
Entomology Club
We are a club for those passionate about insects or interested in a bug's world! We work to deliver educational resources to appreciate the importance of insects to people, the environment, and other organisms. Our goal is to inspire those around us to connect with and respect the insect world!
Formula Electric
The University of Waterloo Formula Electric team (UWFE) is a team consisting of the long-standing UW Formula Motorsports and Waterloo Formula Electric team. We design, build, test and compete with an open-wheel electric formula-style race car. We compete in the Formula SAE Series, specifically the Formula Hybrid and FSAE Michigan Electric competitions.
Impact Alliance
Impact Alliance aims to mobilize SDG knowledge and engagement opportunities among students and clubs across campus by delivering programming, digital content resources, and facilitating collaboration. We are a passionate student-led group that serves the campus community. Formally, Impact Alliance is the SDG Student Hub for the University of Waterloo under SDSN Youth.
Midnight Sun Solar Car
Waterloo's Midnight Sun is a symbol of leadership in engineering and our dedication to green transportation and solutions to climate change. The Midnight Sun team is comprised of almost all undergraduates, who have built and raced 10 fully solar race cars.
Outers Club
We're a community of outdoor enthusiasts who focus on activities throughout all 4 seasons. When it's warm we enjoy camping, hiking, canoeing, climbing, cycling, slacklining, and a whole lot more. When it's nice and snowy, we go winter camping, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing until it warms up again.

Society for Ecological Restoration - Waterloo Chapter
If you are interested in nature, ecology, and understanding or repairing natural ecosystems, check out the SER. The emerging Waterloo chapter is looking for exciting projects and people to join.
Students of the Water Institute, Graduate Section
SWIGS is the student branch of the Water Institute, and seeks to foster interdisciplinary collaboration on water-related research. They host regular conferences and lecture series, and are open to any grad students who are interested in water.
Warrior Home
Warrior Home is an opportunity for some of the University of Waterloo’s brightest and most compassionate thinkers and doers to devote their energy to developing sustainable and affordable housing. Members are able to develop and share their building science, design, project management and social equity knowledge at each weekly meeting.
WUSA Sustainability Project (WSP)
Previously known as Sustainable Campus Initiative (SCI), the WSP launched in spring 2020. Led by WUSA, the WSP will oversee Campus Compost and WUSA Thrift, and will also work on strengthening WUSA advocacy, communication, and policy initiatives for sustainability.
Zoology Club
We are a community of animal-loving UW students. We are eager to discuss and educate our UW peers on animal-related topics, sich as endangered animals, local animals, obscure animals you might not know about, and plenty more!
