Sustainability Action Fund announces fall 2017 recipients
The President's Advisory Committee on Environmental Sustainability (PACES) is excited to provide its first round of funding for four new campus sustainability projects in fall 2017 through the Sustainability Action Fund (SAF). The SAF supports projects and initiatives that advance sustainability at Waterloo by connecting to our academic mission, improving operational practices, and/or fostering a culture of sustainability through campus engagement.
Fall 2017 projects:

E-Waste Collection Stations
This project will launch three new collection stations to make it easier for employees and students to properly recycle their electronic waste. The SAF will cover the purchase of the new stations, which are serviced by Waterloo's Central Stores team. This project is being led by the Sustainable Campus Initiative.

Lobby Waste Receptacles
This project will expand the standardized waste infrastructure to hallways and lobbies across campus. As part of an ongoing update to the waste stations, the standardized bins will ensure proper sorting and waste separation. This project is being ledby Plant Operations - Custodial Services.

Secure Bike Cage
This project will develop a bike cage with secure access near the motorcycle parking beside EV3 and ML. The cage will hold over 50 bikes and SAF funding will help build momentum for project development. This project is being led by students from the Faculty of Environment.

Water Bottle Refill Station
This project will launch a new water bottle refill station in the Columbia Icefield gym to encourage reusable water bottle use and provide feedback by tracking usage. The SAF will cover the station and installation costs. This project is being led by the Sustainable Campus Initiative.
In its first term, the SAF is distributing over $70,000 in funding to these 4 projects. To learn more about the funding criteria, application details, and upcoming funding rounds, please visit the Sustainability Action Fund webpage.
