Sustainability Action Fund announces winter 2022 recipients
The President's Advisory Committee on Environmental Sustainability (PACES) is excited to provide funding for four new campus sustainability projects in winter 2022 through the Sustainability Action Fund (SAF). Launched in 2017, SAF supports projects and initiatives that advance sustainability at Waterloo by connecting to our academic mission, improving operational practices, and/or fostering a culture of sustainability through campus engagement.
Winter 2022 projects:

4RepairUW
Building off historical pilots of repair cafes, this project will restart efforts to offer repair services for personal items across campus. The SAF will support tools and materials to host repair services and education events throughout. This project is led by 4RepairKW.

Alt. Protein Project
This project will support the student-led Alt. Protein Project in a series of workshops and educational activities to generate excitement and awareness around alternative proteins, empower student entrepreneurs, and promote open-access research. This project is led by the Alt. Protein Project student group.

BSIA Community Garden
This project will support the design and installation of a food garden plot at the Balsillie School of International Affairs in Uptown Waterloo. The garden will give students and members of the BSIA community access to land where they can grow fresh produce and reconnect with nature. This project is led by Balsillie School Climate Action Committee.

Sustainability Literacy Conference
This project will support a student-led and focused conference on how to embed sustainability literacy throughout our curriculum, in order to support all students in being prepared for and contributing toward a sustainable future. This project is led by Sustainability Literacy Initiative.
Since 2017, SAF has distributed over $550,000 in funding to more than 35 projects across campus. To learn more about the funding criteria, application details, and upcoming funding rounds, please visit the Sustainability Action Fund webpage.
