The Sustainability Fundamentals Series

Sustainability touches every part of campus, from operations and research to teaching and community impact. Sustainability Fundamentals is a series of online courses on LEARN that explores Waterloo's sustainability commitments, highlights ongoing initiatives and achievements, and unpacks the challenges and opportunities shaping our future.

Gain practical knowledge, discover strategies to make an impact, connect your work with campus sustainability priorities, and build skills that support your professional and career development.

Why participate?

Sustainability Fundamentals helps employees:

  • Have a basic understanding of key local and global sustainability issues, as well as efforts underway to address them.
  • Become familiar with the University’s sustainability objectives, contributions to global challenges, and connections to the Strategic Plan.
  • Understand tools and resources to integrate sustainability into everyday actions on campus and at home.
  • Identify the relevance of sustainability for their work and life.
  • Support professional development goals, contribute to performance and career development conversations.

Registration

Employees can register for the Sustainability Fundamentals courses in Learn.

Steps to register:

  1. Visit Learn and sign in using your WatIAm credentials
  2. Click on Self Registration on the menu bar
  3. Find and select Sustainability Fundamentals (select the course you would like to register for)
  4. Click the button that says Register Once you have completed a course, your Workday record will be automatically updated. Intro to Sustainability is required before completing any of the other courses.

In person offerings

We also offer in-person sessions tailored to department needs. Employee learning records will be updated on Workday after completion of each module.
