Many existing urban planning processes can result in redundant outreach efforts that miss the true concerns of local communities. FieldNotes is a geospatial tool for facilitating participatory planning and meaningful engagement with communities on municipal project proposals. By identifying local partnerships, and unifying existing reports across department silos, FieldNotes helps develop more representative outreach plans.

Ojala Prize for Hardware Prototyping

MomentML by Katrina Hermanns, Abby Martin, Brynn Voigt, and Sarah Werezak

MomentML

Parkinson’s disease (PD), a nervous system disorder with no cure, affects over 6 million people globally. Approximately 80% of people with PD develop a symptom called Freezing of Gait (FoG). FoG occurs when an individual is unable to move forward despite the intention to walk, leading to falls, injuries, and stigmas, which ultimately reduces quality of life. MomentML leverages wearable technology and ML techniques to predict the onset of a FoG episode and provide cues to assist the user to reinitiate gait.

The $500 prize is generously funded by Vivienne Ojala (SYDE '84) and the Ojala family.
