Course: AE 425 - Capstone Design Project Studio
Spring-Winter term (4A/4B)

Throughout AE400 and AE425 studio courses, students complete a comprehensive design studio project of building, bridge, tower, etc. with a defined focus on a specific building system: mechanical, structural, enclosure, and architectural. Each team identifies a unique design project and receives ongoing feedback from industry and faculty experts. The Capstone design project exposes students to all stages of the engineering process.

4A/4B student example: "The Coliseum"

Abandoned stadiums driven by high operation and maintenance costs pose significant issues in the building sector. This project proposes an alternative to demolishing the derelict hockey arena, the Northlands Coliseum in Edmonton, converting the building into a mixed-use development. The adaptive reuse project will create a well-connected community hub with residential and commercial uses while preserving a historically significant building and the embodied carbon of the existing structure.
