Meet the Researcher: Mike Paris

Thursday, March 12, 2020 9:00 am - 11:30 am EDT (GMT -04:00)

This is a free drop-in session open to all community members, staff, students and participants of our CCCARE exercise and research programs to meet one of our featured CCCARE researchers and learn about their ongoing work.

Researcher: Mike Paris (PhD Candidate) working under the supervision of Dr. Marina Mourtzakis.

Topic: Mike will be speaking to us about his work evaluating muscle tissue of older adults using clinically accessible tools.

Description: My research is focused on how body composition modulates our health and disease across aging and clinical populations. Emerging literature has demonstrated that abnormal body composition features, such as obesity or low skeletal muscle mass, impair mobility and quality of life throughout the aging trajectory and negatively impact clinical outcomes (i.e. rates of mortality) across several illnesses (i.e. cancer). However, obtaining accurate and precise measurements of body composition can be challenging, particularly in clinical populations. To achieve precise measures of body composition, we leverage existing medical imaging technologies (i.e. computed tomography, ultrasound) to develop and validate novel approaches for quantifying these tissues.

Please join us for complimentary coffee and light refreshments in TJB 1061 (conference room)!
