The staff are encouraging to each participant, which I find highly motivating and fun! You can't beat the convenience of working on your own personal fitness goals with qualified trainers on campus who tailor the program to your individual needs and abilities, plus there's no need to run off to a gym at lunch or after work.
Fit Foundations 101: Form and Function
This introductory program is a great choice for newcomers to exercise or those seeking to revitalize their fitness routine. It offers a thorough introduction to functional resistance training exercises, focusing on how to adapt them to your current fitness level and progress safely. Led by experienced fitness professionals, this class is an ideal way to kickstart your journey toward better physical health and well-being. Whether you're just starting out or looking to refresh your routine, this program provides the foundational knowledge and guidance you need.
Program Structure:
Week 1: baseline assessment and movement preparation

Basic assessment tools to determine some baseline measurements.

Learn a movement preparation program that includes a series of exercises and routines specifically designed to ready your body for physical activity.
Week 2-5: learn functional resistance training exercises

Proper form and technique for exercises in the program (e.g., squats, deadlifts, bench press).

These weeks are structured as workouts where you begin at a lower intensity to focus on learning proper form and training movement patterns.

During this time, modifications can be made to the movements to ensure they are tailored to your needs.
Week 6: benchmark workout

A benchmark workout is a standardized exercise routine used to assess and track fitness progress over time through specific exercises performed at a set intensity or duration.
Week 7-13: progression

Learn how to advance your exercises effectively and apply those progressions to continually challenge and improve your fitness.

A cardiovascular training component will be incorporated into the program.
Week 14: assessment and benchmark

Repeat assessment and benchmark measures to check progress.

Registration
CCCARE uses a secure registration and payment system to take online credit card payments for our exercise programs. This registration system has existed on our University of Waterloo campus for over a decade and has been approved by our UW finance department for our use.
Please review the Get Active Questionnaire before completing registration. If you have answered yes to any of the questions, contact fitness staff to book a virtual consultation before registering.
Pay your fee online to secure your registration. You will have to first “Sign In” (top right corner) using your WATIAM credentials before you can register and pay.
Once signed in, you will find our programs under the “Fitness Services” icon. Go to “UW Staff and Faculty Training” or and select the desired program to complete your registration.
Next, you will be taken to a cart checkout and payment portal to input your credit card information. After you’ve paid, you will receive an electronic receipt to your email from khsreg@uwaterloo.ca, so be sure to check your junk mail if you don’t see your receipt.
