Registration is now open for UW KINnection 2021. Please email Ellen Wang if you would like to attend.
Do you have osteoarthritis, low bone mineral density, osteoporosis or just want to learn more about bone health?
Participate in an interactive virtual event with kinesiology students at the University of Waterloo!
Sign up for a two hour virtual event with our upper-year kinesiology students. Typically we would have our students assess some aspects of your physical function, including strength, posture, balance, and flexibility, and teach you some new strength and balance exercises. This year we can’t be in person, so instead we will have a series of mini lectures for the first hour to educate you on exercise guidelines, resources and nutrition. We will then have breakout rooms where you will be paired with two students to discuss your current level of physical activity, barriers to exercise and much more.
Rest assured that technical support will be provided prior to and throughout the event!
If you have attended in the past, we can discuss your current exercise plan and appropriate progressions that are available.
This event does not replace consultation with a health care provider or certified exercise professional. It is an opportunity for our kinesiology students to practice their skills.
Session times will be offered on Saturday, March 20, 2021.
Registration is unlimited for the first hour, but only the first 25 participants can participate in the breakout rooms with students.
- 10:00 a.m. - Welcome and information session
- 11:00 a.m. - Breakout sessions with a kinesiology student
- 12:00 p.m. - Wrap up
During the breakout session, you will participate in:
- Physical activity questionnaire
- Discuss barriers to exercise and SMART goal setting
- Action planning with Canada’s Physical Activity Guidelines
- Talk about various resources that are available
*You can choose to opt out of any of the above.
You will have to provide Consent prior to the event and the day of the event. We will have registered physiotherapists, kinesiologists and exercises professionals at the event.
If you have questions, please contact Ellen Wang.
This event is hosted by the Department of Kinesiology and the Centre for Community, Clinical and Applied Research Excellence (CCCARE) at the University of Waterloo. This event is in partnership with the Osteoporosis Canada and the A.R. Kaufman YMCA.
