Water Environment Association of Ontario (WEAO) has collaborated with the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks to use the Student Design Competition (SDC) to promote emerging topics within the water industry such as resource recovery and sustainable infrastructure. The topic of the 2019-20 WEAO Student Design Competition was stormwater management at Mill Pond Park in the Town of Richmond Hill. Mill Pond is a pseudo-online stormwater management facility and there were concerns regarding fish passage and water quality and quantity control.
One of the current CEE Capstone teams - C1: BuCKeT Inc - entered the WEAO competition with their design for rehabilitation and conversion of Mill Pond. After submitting their presentation and completing a Q&A conference call with WEAO judges on March 29, team BuCKeT placed second in the WEAO Student Design Competition 2020. Congratulations!

The University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples. Our main campus is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. Our active work toward reconciliation takes place across our campuses through research, learning, teaching, and community building, and is centralized within our Office of Indigenous Relations.
