When a research project is proposed it is expected that the Principle Investigator/Supervisor in conjunction with the Students/Workers analyze the methods, equipment, and materials being used in order to identify:
- Potential or existing hazards
- The level of risk for each hazard
- The controls that will be implemented to either eliminate or minimize the risk of each hazard
To accomplish this, researchers are expected to complete a Laboratory New Process Risk Assessment Form. This must be signed by their supervisor or Principle Investigator and attached to the bench/frame where they are working along with their emergency contact information.
