Degree Requirements

In order to receive your degree, you must complete all your specific program degree requirements published in the GSPA Academic Calendar. Be aware of the important dates as posted in GSPA calendar and use the Engineering degree completion deadlines as guidance.

When student's have completed all their degree requirements they should Apply to Graduate through Quest. Student's will need to select the expected graduation term. Please select the term in which you expect all your degree requirements to be met.

For MEng, MASc and PhD students: 

  • CIVE Courses: Each candidate must successfully complete a certain number of graduate level courses according to the program. Please review your program degree requirements for the specific courses you are to take.

For MASc and PhD Students: 

  • Research Principles and Applications Milestone: Students are to attend and complete the Graduate Skills Workshop through LEARN. Students are to complete this during their first term. Students are also to attend seminars. MASc students are to attend 10 seminars, and PhD students are to attend 20 seminars. To track your seminar attendance, please complete the seminar tracking form each time you attend a seminar.

Engineering PhD Thesis

The thesis topic is decided by the student and supervisor(s), in consultation with an advisory committee. The proposed research program is also examined during the Comprehensive Examination. Please review our steps to schedule and submit the PhD defense and thesis. Please also follow the steps to PhD Degree completion and be aware of the degree Completion Deadlines .   

Engineering PhD Comprehensive Examination 

The PhD degree is awarded after candidates have satisfied the Examining Committee that their thesis is a substantial original contribution to knowledge and have also demonstrated a high degree of competence in areas of knowledge related to their specialization.
