In today's Alumni Impact Series, where we highlight the inspiring paths of our Master of Business, Entrepreneurship, and Technology (MBET) graduates, we are featuring Tyler Cormier, who graduated in 2020.
Tyler’s story is a testament to the power of the MBET program in shaping entrepreneurs who are driving meaningful innovation and creating positive change in the world.
Meet Tyler Cormier
Tyler Cormier’s entrepreneurial journey began at home, where both of his parents ran their own businesses for over 30 years. Growing up in this environment, Tyler was inspired by the freedom, innovation, and problem-solving that entrepreneurship provided.
During his undergraduate years, Tyler took courses at the Conrad School of Entrepreneurship and Business, where he quickly realized that the program’s dynamic culture, innovative approach, and inspiring professors were aligned with his ambitions. This led him to pursue a Minor in Entrepreneurship alongside his Honours Sports Business degree and start his own business.
Building a Strong Foundation through MBET
Eager to further hone his entrepreneurial skills, Tyler turned to the Master of Business, Entrepreneurship, and Technology (MBET) program. For him, MBET was the perfect opportunity to deepen his entrepreneurial mindset and gain hands-on experience.
The program equipped him with the practical tools and strategic thinking required to navigate the challenges of starting and growing a business in today’s fast-paced, ever-changing world.
In addition to his coursework, Tyler was involved in the program as a Teaching Assistant and an Entrepreneurship Advisor for undergraduate students. These roles allowed him to help students assess and launch new business ideas, an experience that continues to shape his work today with startups at Plug and Play Tech Center, where he collaborates with ventures at every stage of their growth.

The Power of Networking and Community
One of the most impactful aspects of the MBET program for Tyler was the strong sense of community. Late nights spent studying, collaborating on projects, and exchanging ideas with his peers are memories he treasures. The program fostered a collaborative spirit that has stayed with him throughout his career, driving him to seek out similar networks wherever he goes.
Equally influential were the professors, whose mentorship extended far beyond the classroom. Tyler continues to rely on these relationships for guidance and support as he advances in his career. He credits the ongoing connections with his professors and fellow alumni as a key part of his professional development.

From PriZmGolf to Entrepreneurial Success
While still in his undergraduate years, Tyler founded PriZmGolf, a premium lifestyle brand offering customizable golf gloves and apparel. Drawing on the entrepreneurial skills he developed at the Conrad School, Tyler was able to turn this idea into a fully operational business. From developing a go-to-market strategy to analyzing financial projections, the MBET program provided him with the tools to launch and sustain his business.
Although PriZmGolf faced challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Tyler’s entrepreneurial spirit remained strong. He transitioned to the corporate world, first with Philip Morris International, where he contributed to the growth of a new product line. Later, Tyler moved to Sysco, where he excelled as a Business Development Manager, ranking among the top performers in Canada.

Returning to Entrepreneuship: Joining Plug and Play Tech Center
Despite his success in the corporate world, Tyler always knew he wanted to return to his entrepreneurial roots. That opportunity arose when he joined Plug and Play Tech Center, a global innovation platform based in Silicon Valley. As Corporate Partnerships Manager in Calgary, Tyler helps connect Fortune 500 and 1000 companies with disruptive startups, facilitating innovation across multiple industries.
In his role at Plug and Play, Tyler has played a pivotal role in helping startups raise millions of dollars and form strategic partnerships. In Alberta alone, the organization has accelerated 284 startups, raised $769 million, and created hundreds of new business opportunities. Tyler continues to be inspired by the entrepreneurs he works with and is passionate about supporting their growth.
A Unique Advantage: Skills and Knowledge from MBET
The entrepreneurial mindset and strategic skills Tyler gained in the MBET program have been invaluable throughout his career. From advising startups to designing innovation strategies for corporations, Tyler regularly draws on the lessons and insights he gained at the Conrad School.
The MBET program helped him understand the importance of agility, creative problem-solving, and a customer-centric approach—all critical elements of successful entrepreneurship. These skills continue to inform his work and shape his impact in the entrepreneurial ecosystem.
