The Conrad School of Entrepreneurship and Business is thrilled to announce the appointment of two new faculty members: Horatio Morgan and Dean Pacey.
Horatio Morgan, Associate Professor of Entrepreneurship, Business & Organizational Behaviour
Horatio embraces an interdisciplinary research program that integrates core insights from psychology, sociology and economics. In doing so, he addresses interesting puzzles in areas as diverse as international entrepreneurship, international strategy, immigrant entrepreneurship, entrepreneurial finance and analytics. His overarching goal is to help business leaders and policymakers make better judgments and decisions in a competitive, uncertain and complex world. We asked Horatio about joining the Conrad School team.
“I’ve always looked to the University of Waterloo for bold and innovative leadership. I now have a front-row seat at the Conrad School, which allows me to experience the lively entrepreneurship spirit and warm culture of excellence at work."
He goes on to say, "It doesn’t stop there. I’m also excited about teaming up with my extraordinary colleagues and leaders in our impressive startup ecosystem to redefine business education. And of course, I can hardly wait to see the next wave of talented student entrepreneurs who will make us proud by leading on the global stage.”
His work has been published in leading peer-reviewed journals, such as the Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Business Venturing and the Journal of Management. Horatio earned his PhD from Simon Fraser University. In addition, he has served as a trusted adviser and strategist to various organizations (i.e., startups, small and medium-sized enterprises, corporations and all levels of government) across multiple industries (i.e., professional services, financial services, science and technology, education, and manufacturing) and areas of specialization (i.e., international strategy, transnational immigrant entrepreneurship, innovation strategy and policy, entrepreneurship education and policy, and export promotion initiatives).
In his new role, the first course he will teach is BET 340 (Essentials of Entrepreneurial Planning and Execution).
Dean Pacey, Lecturer
Before joining the Conrad School, Dean was an accomplished business executive, entrepreneur, educator, and author with over 30 years of experience in senior management roles building global tech companies. Dean has held executive leadership positions in sales, marketing and operations in companies including BlackBerry, AT&T, Connect Communications, and ACC TeleEnterprises. He has had the good fortune of learning from people in over 20 countries. His experiences include founding his own successful start-up and seeing this business scale through progressive funding rounds and an exit. Dean is an active angel investor and mentor and serves a few high-growth technology start-ups on their boards. We asked Dean about joining the Conrad School team.
"What a tremendous time to be involved in entrepreneurial education and the development of Canada's next generation of leaders. I could not be more excited about joining the Conrad Team and continuing to play a role in KW's thriving technology and start-up ecosystem."
As an adjunct lecturer at the University of Waterloo, Dean teaches International Business, Entrepreneurship and Sales Management. Dean holds a BBA and an MSc. in Innovation and Technology Management from WLU and is continuing his research into how AI will reshape corporate design making and is an enthusiastic fan of bringing design thinking concepts into the start-up journey.
In his new role, the first course he will teach is BET 430 (Sales Fundamentals) as well as delivering sales workshops for Master of Business, Entrepreneurship and Technology (MBET) students.
