Winter 2022 Concept $5K Recap

At the semi-finals, this March, 22 student venture teams pitched their early start-up ideas to a panel of judges. Eight of these teams have been selected as semi-finalists and will have the opportunity to pitch at the Concept $5K finals, for a chance to win one of four $5,000 grants. Four of these ventures are comprised of current and former undergraduate and graduate Conrad School students. Incredible!

A startup founded by second-year Waterloo Engineering students just five years ago would have a market capitalization of US $5.16 billion under a proposed merger to make it a publicly traded company.

Embark Trucks, which is based in San Francisco, was launched by former mechatronics engineering students Alex Rodrigues and Brandon Moak to bring autonomous technology to the trucking industry.

Conrad School students continue to be a force to reckoned with on the student pitch competition circuit — both on and off-campus. We are thrilled to share some of the highlights from this fall 2021 term.

Fall 2021 Concept $5K Recap

Out of all the teams who applied to the fall 2021 Concept $5K, 20 teams were selected to pitch. Of these 20, eight teams emerged as semifinalists. All eight of these teams are comprised of current and former undergraduate and graduate Conrad School students. Our students typically find themselves among these ranks but this term is truly phenomenal!
