The Cybersecurity and Privacy Institute hosted a unique interdisciplinary workshop on campus that brought together University of Waterloo faculty, staff, and students, as well as industry representatives and visiting academics. Attendees spent an enjoyable and thought-provoking day Thursday, May 16, 2024, at the Enterprise Theatre in East Campus 5 exploring algorithmic game theory by hearing perspectives from both economists and computer scientists in a special speaker/presentation format organized and led by CPI’s Acting Executive Director, Anindya Sen.

An interview with Assistant Professor Xi He, David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science
University of Waterloo, Canada CIFAR AI Chair at the Vector Institute, and CPI Member.

Professor XI He talks about her research and teaching, as well as the salient topics surrounding her research in differential privacy.

When it comes to generative AI, there seems to be a lingering question on top of every eDiscovery professional’s mind: are the robots coming for my job? Generative AI, technology that can autonomously create different outputs, is here to stay and while it has its limitations, this technology will only continue getting better.

Now, it’s not all doom and gloom from here. Generative AI’s rise doesn’t equate to your downfall. On the contrary, we believe that industry professionals can make generative AI their greatest asset.

In our upcoming workshop, we invite our community to come together to learn how we can use generative AI to uplevel what we do.

CPI is excited to announce Diogo Barradas as interim Associate Director of the Cybersecurity and Privacy Institute (CPI). Barradas has been a member of CPI since 2022 and assumes the role while the previous Associate Director, Anindya Sen, fills in as Acting Executive Director to cover a sabbatical.
