We are pleased to share some upcoming organizational changes with some leadership positions held by Science faculty members.
On
January
1,
2021, Professor
Kirsten
Müller began
a
four-year
term
as
Chair
of
the Department
of
Biology.
She
is
taking
over
from Professor
Hugh
Broders,
who
served
as
department
chair
for
the
past
four
years.
Professor Müller held the position of Assistant Vice-President, Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs at the University of Waterloo until the end of 2020, and is the Past President of the Phycological Society of America. Professor Müller also recently participated in the Homeward Bound program, embarking on a voyage to Antarctica to develop skills in leadership, strategy, communication and visibility.

February
1,
2021, Professor
Shawn
Wettig from
the School
of
Pharmacy will
begin
a
two-year
term
as
the
Assistant
Vice-President,
Graduate
Studies
and
Postdoctoral
Affairs,
replacing
Professor
Müller
in
this
role.
Since 2018, Professor Wettig has been the Associate Dean, Graduate Studies for the Faculty of Science. During this time, he has worked collaboratively with departments and schools to support students’ timely completion of their programs and has focused on increasing graduate student enrolment in the Faculty of Science. Professor Wettig has also served as the Associate Director for Graduate Studies and Research in the School of Pharmacy.

2021, Professor
Martin
Ross from
the Department
of
Earth
and
Environmental
Sciences will
begin
a
three-year
term
as
the
Associate
Dean,
Graduate
Studies
in
the
Faculty
of
Science,
taking
over
from
Professor
Wettig.
We look forward to working with Professor Ross in promoting graduate studies in the Faculty of Science.
