Economics Alumna Jue Zhang (PhD '17) has co-authored a COVID paper titled, "Transitions into and out of employment by immigrants during the COVID-19 lockdown and recovery" that was posted by Stats Canada today. The paper examines how immigrants vs Canadian born workers have been affected by the labour market changes. It is a great accomplishment to be featured on such a high profile platform. Alumni Relations at the Unviersity of Waterloo recognizes the academic achievements of graduating students by awarding Alumni Gold Medals during the University's convocation ceremonies. One undergraduate student representing each of Waterloo's six faculties receives this prestigious award. This year, the Arts Alumni Gold Medal was awarded to Mathematical Economics student, Qingyi Yan.
With the pandemic going on, there is lots of talk about CERB, the benefit that was created as an emergency response. Professor Stephanie Lluis wrote a memo for the C.D. Howe Institute titled, "Lessons from Employment Insurance for the CERB" where she discusses how employment insurance can provide guidance for the CERB.
