The University of Waterloo’s School of Environment, Resources and Sustainability is launching the SERS Mentorship Program this spring term. The program’s goal is to provide SERS students with the opportunity to receive advice and support from their peers, and to gain insights from upper year students and environmental practitioners. Sessions will cover an array of topics including co-op placement success, graduate school opportunities, securing entry-level jobs, and career options.

SERS is proud to announce that Lowine Hill (PhD) and Ella-Kari Muhl (PhD) have received competitive scholarships to further support their doctoral research.

Maggie Chang, an undergraduate student in the School of Environment, Resources and Sustainability has been recognized as one of Starfish Canada’s Top 25 Environmentalists Under 25. Also recognized are Environment alumnus Beth Eden and Climate Students member Manvi Bhalla.

ERS 275 Indigenous Sustainability Entrepreneurship course provides an overview and introduction to environmental sustainability through the lens of Indigenous entrepreneurship. Students from all faculties are invited (and encouraged) to enroll. There are no prerequisites.

In this Environment and Popular Culture course (ERS 275) we'll use environmental films to navigate the discussions on environmental themes. Students from all faculties are invited (and encourage) to enrol. No prerequisites.

For some of us this is welcome back and for others it is welcome for the first time. Wherever you are from, whatever your background, you belong in SERS and you are wanted here.

For all of us it’s a new Fall Term and one unlike anything we have ever experienced before. If you’re feeling a little anxious and uncertain about how things are going to go with this self-distanced and largely online term, you’re not alone. We’re all feeling that but we’ll all cut each other a little slack and we’ll muddle through it together.

Perhaps the faculty’s worst-kept secret of 2020, Environment is proud to finally announce our two outstanding Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship (Vanier CGS) winners, Lauren Smith, from the School of Environment Resources and Sustainability, and Justin Murfitt, from Geography and Environmental management.
