Environment does it different

On Thursday May 12, 2022, the Faculty of Environment held the first in-person General Assembly in over two years. The assembly received an entertaining annual report presentation from all the departments, attributed to Dean Jean Andrey’s goal for a creative spin on the classic reports.

April 24-30, 2022 is National Volunteer Week, a week-long celebration where we recognize the many meaningful contributions our volunteers make throughout the year and thank them for their engagement and support of University of Waterloo and Faculty of Environment initiatives. 

This year, the Faculty of Environment's chosen theme for National Volunteer Week is "celebrating the power of together". Below and on our social media accounts, you will find mini profiles on a handful of student, faculty, staff, and alumni volunteers. We hope you enjoy getting to know some of these incredible community members and are inspired to find your own avenue to give back. 

A new report warns extreme heat is set to cause devastating climate-related suffering in Canada, that if left unchecked, will surpass the 595 heat-related fatalities reported by British Columbia's coroner in 2021, and 86 lives lost in Quebec in 2018.

In advance of Earth Day 2022 on April 22, Sarah Burch, a professor at the Faculty of Environment and Canada Research Chair in Sustainability Governance and Innovation, discusses its relevance more than 50 years on.

Three students of the Faculty of Environment dominated this year’s winter term Social Impact Showcase organized by St. Paul’s University College GreenHouse by winning three out of the nine ventures that pitched for the coveted awards.

The student of Environment, Resources and Sustainability at the Faculty of Environment, Emma Schuster with other five women have been recognized as 2021 University of Waterloo Co-op Students of the Year.
