Globally, cities are home to more than half of humanity and they are only expected to grow. In confronting challenges spanning climate change, resource constraints, geopolitical tensions and rapid technological advances, it is imperative to envision cities that not only champion sustainability, but also embody resilience and innovation.

Meeting the challenge to enhance urban sustainability head-on, our faculty is collaborating with stakeholders from industry, government, civil society and across academia. Together we have an ambitious plan that prioritizes the development of future-ready talent and innovation, in alignment with the University’s long-term vision outlined in Waterloo at 100.

Our current issue of ENVision shares some of our collective work on building future cities as well as highlighting other initiatives across campus. Join us in envisioning a new urban landscape, where innovation and sustainability thinking lay the foundations for resilience, and collaborative vision and action build the cities of the future.
