Monday, October 5, 2015

The Library kicked off its Excellence Canada Excellence, Innovation and Wellness (EIW) Silver certification project with an All-Staff Meeting in the 1302 Davis Centre amphitheatre on September 28.

Marilyn Thompson, Vice Provost, Human Resources and Excellence Canada Campus Champion, offered greetings and congratulations to the Library on its accomplishment with Bronze certification in December 2014, and being the first campus unit to pursue Silver.

Catherine Neville, Vice President, Excellence Canada, discussed how the Silver effort will be different from the Bronze certification and offered some suggestions to the group as to how to approach the project.

Pascal Calarco, Associate University Librarian, Research & Digital Discovery Services presented on how the Library will approach Silver certification, how it relates to the continuous improvement Lean Higher Education effort on campus, and discussed next steps.

Alex McCulloch, Head, Circulation Services, briefly discussed some of the Kaizen efforts that have been underway in that department, offering a look into some of the Lean Higher Education tools and approaches.

Nancy Collins, Liaison Librarian, Porter Information Services & Resources, updated the group on some of the activities that the Library's Health Safety & Wellness Committee had advanced, with tangible examples of ideas flowing from the Bronze certification accomplishment.

Sharon Lamont presented on the major renovation projects that will commence this year.

Mark Haslett finished the morning off with a presentation on the Library’s Multi-year Annual Planning & Prioritization Process (MAP3) project, with an upcoming two-day facilitated retreat next month for Library Managers, Committee representatives, and other staff who are interested and available.
