GEM Congratulates Association of Ontario Land Surveyors Educational Foundation Academic Excellence in Geomatics Award Winners

The Department of Geography and Environmental Management is very pleased to announce the Association of Ontario Land Surveyors Educational Foundation Academic Excellence in Geomatics award winners for the 2015-16 academic year.

Brian Wan

Brian Wan is a third year student in the Geomatics program in the Faculty of Environment. Brian is honoured to receive the Association of Ontario Land Surveyors Educational Foundation Academic Excellence in Geomatics

Award. With this recognition, Brian feels motivated to continue working hard and dedicating his time to future academic terms.

When not studying, Brian values the importance of staying informed with current affairs & the latest technologies. He is also very passionate about music.

Upon graduation, Brian is focused on continual enrichment, which may include furthering his education. His career aspirations include finding a position that would augment the skills and tools acquired while at university and his experience with cartographic and analytical GIS tasks. He is currently learning technical languages such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript & PHP to help further his career.

Brian is extremely thankful to AOLS for their support during his undergraduate career.

Daniel Markhevka

Daniel Markhevka is finishing his second year in the Honours Geomatics (Coop) program in the Faculty of Environment. Receiving the Association of Ontario Land Surveyors Educational Foundation Academic Excellence in

Geomatics Award was not only financially helpful, but he is grateful to be recognized for the hard work and dedication he puts forth in his studies.

Daniel often uses his technical skills to excel at online games such as Civilization V and League of Legends, and enjoys building community through table top and card games like Magic the Gathering and Settlers of Catan. Daniel is also musically talented and spends time playing and writing music on the bass guitar and keyboard.

Daniel is focused on his academics and improving his skills in a wide range of geomatics and computer science disciplines to help him upon graduation. He would like to pursue a career in exposing the public to the subject of geomatics and crowdsourced use of GIS.
