Abstract

Superconducting qubits have experienced consistent and remarkable improvement for over a decade. With current coherence times approaching tens of microseconds in a planar geometry, single qubit gate fidelities over 99.7% and two-qubit gate fidelities over 95%, these systems are considered amongst the most promising candidates for quantum information processing. In this talk, I will present recent advances made on superconducting qubits at IBM, including efforts on extending the single qubit lifetime as well as the implementation of a high-fidelity universal set of multi-qubit gates. This will be presented and discussed within the model of a fault tolerant quantum computing architecture based on a scalable two-dimensional surface code.
