“Quantum physics” has taken its position with “rocket science” in pop culture as a shorthand for frighteningly complicated science. Quantum physics has also taken on a sort of magical connotation in fiction, with features like entanglement, superposition, and tunneling, spurring imagination. But where does the science draw the line? How much is joyful speculation, and how much is disregard for reality? And if it’s always seen as either magical or scary, how does that affect the perception of quantum science?
Join us at the Institute for Quantum Computing for a two-week introduction to the theoretical and experimental study of quantum information processing.
During the Undergraduate School on Experimental Quantum Information Processing (USEQIP) will be exposed to lectures and experiments on the following topics and more.
The Quantum Cryptography School for Young Students (QCSYS) will run August 9-16, 2019 with students arriving August 8 and departing August 17. Apply for QCSYS and discover how the physics and mathematics of quantum mechanics and cryptography merge into one of the most exciting topics in contemporary science – quantum cryptography.
The international Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) Summer School is a five-day program focused on theoretical and experimental aspects of quantum communication with a focus on quantum cryptography. Established in 2008, QKD occurs every other year and was last held in 2017.
The Quantum Innovators in science and engineering workshop brings together the most promising young researchers in quantum physics and engineering. Guests are invited for a four-day conference aimed at exploring the frontier of our field.
The one-day workshop is the third in a series that brings together researchers at Institut de Recherche en Informatique Fondamentale (IRIF), Université Paris-Diderot and the Institute for Quantum Computing, University of Waterloo. It will feature a full day of talks on recent progress in quantum algorithms and complexity theory, and related areas, made by members of the two institutions, with the idea to foster collaboration.
Join us for three days at the Institute for Quantum Computing (IQC) for Schrödinger's Class November 22 – 24, 2019. You will have the opportunity to attend lectures and engage in hands-on activities focused on the integration of quantum technology into the current teaching curriculum. We will discuss quantum information science and technology to give you a deeper understanding of quantum mechanics.

The goal of the IQC Workshop on Quantum Illumination is to bring together a wide range of participants from these various domains to discuss the state of the art in laboratory research, the range of possible applications, and paths toward those applications.
