Illuminating Perceptions: Safety in Cities at Night

Explore how perceptions of safety in urban spaces at night are shaped by complex personal, social, environmental, and cultural factors.

As urban landscapes evolve, perceptions of safety and security at night are increasingly shaped by intricate and intersecting factors. Our exhibit entitled, Illuminating Perceptions: Safety in Cities at Night examines the manner in which personal experiences, social location, intersectionality, and media narratives collectively influence individuals’ feelings of safety in urban environments. Our exhibit provides an opportunity to explore the ways these factors interact. Furthermore, research findings and practical examples are strategically integrated,  offering visitors insight into the varied experiences of safety across diverse communities. Our exhibit aspires to promote greater understanding and foster inclusive, thriving cities that support the safety and wellbeing of all individuals.
