Life after KI

Ever wonder what life will be like after you graduate? So did we. Ask us anything about transitioning out of your undergraduate degree. The panel includes BKI alumni working in multiple disciplines and completing post-graduate study.

Four KI alumni

Laura Bell (she/her) BKI’12: Science Policy
After completing Knowledge Integration with a Minor in Biology (inaugural Amsterdam cohort), Laura pursued her interest in community ecology by obtaining a Master of Science in Biology (2015). She studied predator-prey interactions and ecosystem engineers while surveying an endangered species of dragonfly. Since graduating KI, she has worked for both the provincial and federal governments and developed a passion for plants while working in the agriculture sector. Laura currently works for the Canadian Food Inspection Agency as a Policy and Programs Analyst with the Fertilizer Safety Section. She serves as Community Liason on the Board of Directors at the North Grenville Learning Center, enjoys volunteering at a local greenhouse, and spends her spare time growing vegetables with her two children.

Evaleen Hellinga (she/her), BKI ‘15: Law
Evaleen graduated from Knowledge Integration in 2015 with minors in philosophy and psychology. After graduation, she worked for a design and strategy consulting firm for a couple of years and then completed her JD at Osgoode Hall Law School. In law school, she worked at a community legal clinic and participated in the Anishinaabe Law Camp, which were formative experiences in her legal education. She articled with the Toronto District School Board and began her legal career as a Labour Relations Advisor to the Board. In 2022, Evaleen entered private practice. She now practices primarily in labour, employment, immigration and refugee law. She regularly uses the critical thinking and interdisciplinary problem-solving skills she developed in KI to support and advocate for her clients.

Clarice Chin (she/her), BKI '16: User Experience Design
Clarice received her BKI with a Design Specialization and Spanish Minor in 2016 (part of the Amsterdam II cohort) and her Interaction Design Essentials Certificate from Emily Carr University of Art and Design in 2017. After graduation, Clarice worked at various design agencies as a user experience designer and took a one year hiatus as an executive assistant before landing at Athlon Studios. As a Sr. Design Lead, Clarice has transitioned from the day-to-day craft of creating design work to leading design teams through projects and managing relationships with clients. Some of her proudest moments as a designer have been creating an app for nurses during the COVID pandemic, creating a successful internship program at Athlon Studios, and in 2024, helping to grow the team from 30 to 85 people.

Joshua Dolman (he/him), BKI ‘18: Education
Joshua Dolman is a high school educator based in the Waterloo Region. Knowledge Integration’s high school outreach inspired his teaching journey; the program’s design inquiry focus, academic flexibility, and passionate community made it a clear choice for his undergraduate education. After completing his BKI in 2018 with a French Minor, Joshua obtained a Masters in Teaching at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education. He now teaches History, Law, and French at Waterloo Collegiate Institute, where he continues to explore how best to establish accessible, inclusive, and collaborative classrooms. These endeavours also extend to Joshua’s work with the Shad summer program since 2020, most recently as Program Manager at Shad Mount Allison.
