Paul has a BASc in Electrical Engineering with Computer Science Electives (EE/CSE) from the University of Waterloo and a diploma in Watchmaking from George Brown College. After graduation he began working at the University of Waterloo with the Engineering Education Research Centre and, subsequently, the Engineering Computing department.

His teaching experience includes more than twenty months of July, living in residence with the Shad summer enrichment program, where he has provided, at times, technical support, stage management, classroom instruction, project design consultation, and admonishments to get some sleep. Along the way he helped shape the highly-regarded Waterloo Unlimited enrichment program, which led to the creation of the fledgling Knowledge Integration program, which he joined in time to welcome its first students in 2008.

Over his years on campus, Paul has served as President, Producer and Chief Scriptwriter of the annual FASS musical production, Chief Centurion of the Warriors Band, member of the legendary Varsity Briefcase Drill Team, President of the University of Waterloo Staff Association, Honorary Chair for Staff of the University’s Keystone Campaign, and co-chair of Keystone’s annual picnic. Off campus, Paul has served as the President of the Waterloo Concert Band (Clarinet, Bass Clarinet), and is a past Chair of the Waterloo Park Advisory Committee of Council.

Paul’s teaching assignments included INTEG 121, INTEG 230, and INTEG 452. He also designed and taught INTEG 375 Special Topics: Hands-on Sustainability.

He provided support for the other courses in the “Museum sequence,” INTEG 320 and INTEG 321, in preparation for the annual Knowledge Integration eXhibition (KIX). Within the department, he also provided student support for the KI Works program. Paul's experiential and engaging teaching was recognized in 2022 when he was awarded the University of Waterloo Distinguished Teaching Award and the Faculty of Environment Teaching Award.

His interests include 3D printing, web-scripting, prototyping, problem-solving and all manner of “fixing things.”

Paul retired in August 2022, and his contributions to the KI experience will have long lasting impact.
