The Motz family came to Canada in 1848 when John Motz left his home in Diedorf, Germany and took the 64 day ocean voyage to Canada. He followed his elder sister Regina and her husband Frederick Noll to the Waterloo Region after arriving by boat to Quebec City and taking a covered wagon to Berlin (now Kitchener).
