Exploring Métis History Through Baroque Music

Karen Sunabacka’s latest piece nitatisipwētānān: We are Leaving for soprano and baroque orchestra will be premiered by Tafelmusik and soprano Amanda Forsythe in Toronto on April 30, with repeat performances on May 1, 2 and 3. The libretto was written by Karen's mother and regular collaborator, Joyce Clouston. The piece was commissioned by Tafelmusik and is about her Métis ancestor Margaret Kipling and her experience of the pemmican wars while living at Brandon House, a Hudson’s Bay Company post, in the early 1800’s.
